The Ring

Hollywood VS World Cinema

A world cinematic movie, "Ringu" 1998 was released in 2000,japanese Directed movie, the story is of is a young journalist with a divorced husband, and a son. Upon learning that her niece's three friends died at the same time, too, and hearing about a disturbing videotape that is said to kill you seven days after watching it, Reiko comes into the possession of that same tape. Now, as time grows short, Reiko and Ryuji race to save their lives from impending doom and discover what the tape has to do with a tragedy-stricken volcanic island and a very strange little girl named Sadako
this chilling story was later remade into a hollywood version called "The Ring" released in 2002, starring Naomi Watts which is similar - A mysterious video tape is killing off anyone who watches it. Whenever the victim watches it, the phone rings, telling them they have only one week to live. A young reporter named Rachel is investigating these events, but after she and her small son watch the tape, it becomes a race against time to find out why the tape is killing everyone and how it could be stopped.

Why am i writing about this? well these japanese and chinese movies are used to make Hollywood blockbusters, mainly with the heavy influence of martial arts. The ring then made a sequel, the Ring 2.
japanese movies are of an asian origin and considered world cinema. The Ring was a cult hit, which suggests that many movies that we see such as The Matrix 1999 are influcned heavily.
